Oleg Sydor-Hibelynda's article raises the issue of existence a European Salon in context Modernist art, some on which uses. French painter Georg-Antoine Rochegrosse (1859– 1939) іs one those who tried to combine salon academicism and individual images symbolism decadence; far examples, he illustrated «Fleur du Mal» by Charles Baudelaire and«Salambo» Gustav Flaubert, also designed opera performances, popularized oriental themes. Reproductions his works were published huge edition, performances based paintings caused scandals. He was admired Alexander Benois (he soon exposed it history art) Maxim Gorky (allusion global Russian disaster 1896 year well-known as Khodynka), even Max Jacob (an ironic episode novels) Goncourt brothers (they kepts portraits their collection, so called «Attic»), way, interested great Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka (in whose work we find similarities with him, although, apparently, she did not see originals paintings). However, strange eclectic experience contributed greatly understanding art kitsch (a vivid example is painting - «The Pursuit Happiness», described Life Klim Samgin»), developed after death this painter. In today’s world, interest growing, little. So, remains characteristic creative figure «transitional era», spokesman for murky contradictory «background time». A clumsy epigone symbolism, expressed vague desires end recognized symbolist. That’s why call Georges-Antoine «bad good artist». Today would be postmodernist.
